ASK (a.k.a The On-Ramp)
- Good morning!
- I have a question for you: Have you been enjoying lots of tasty food during this
holiday time of Christmas and New Years?
- What were some of those foods that you had? [Listen briefly to their answers]
- Those sound good! Did you also have chocolate? Or maybe other types of goodies that
you don’t have at other times during the year like candy canes, eggnog, and gingerbread
cookies for example?
- So here’s another question: How do you think you would feel if you ONLY ate candy
canes and gingerbread cookies and eggnog? Do you think you would feel good? (Noooo!)
- I think you’re right that you probably wouldn’t feel very good.
TELL (a.k.a. The Freeway)
- So, we agree that filling up ONLY on the wrong food will make us feel not so good.
- But, the opposite is true too. Filling up on the right stuff can help us feel healthy
and ready to do things, right?
- In today's scripture passage we hear that Jesus is filled up with a different kind
of right stuff - he's filled up with God's light, truth, and grace.
- And because he's filled with God’s light, truth, and grace, we also hear that he
will help us – the world – know how to receive God's light, truth, and grace.
- We also hear that when we fill up on this good stuff that Jesus is offering, then
we will learn to become children of God, just like Jesus was (and is) a child of
God.
SHARE the Good News (a.k.a. The Destination)
- But that’s not all! As we learn from Jesus how to receive God’s light, truth, and
grace and start to fill up with all that good stuff, then we are much better prepared
to then do the same thing that Jesus did: We can share God's light, truth, and grace
with those around us.
- That’s right! When we fill up on the good stuff that Jesus offers us, then we will
be able to offer that good stuff to other people just like Jesus did.
- And that's the good news for today: Let’s pray.
CLOSING Prayer
- This is a repeat-after-me prayer.
Dear God,
Dear God,
Thank you for Jesus…
Thank you for Jesus…
…who was filled up with…
…who was filled up with…
…your light, truth, and grace…
…your light, truth, and grace…
…and shared it with the world.
…and shared it with the world.
Please help us to do the same.
Please help us to do the same.
Thank you and amen.
