ASK (a.k.a The On-Ramp)
- Good morning!
- I have a question for you: Do you have a light in your bedroom at home?
- And…do you ever turn that light on? [yes]
- Why? [to see and find things when it is dark]
- But isn’t it your stuff that is in your bedroom? Why do you need a light to be able
to see and find your stuff? Don’t you already know what and where it is? [expect
responses of: You need the light to be able to see, duh!]
- So, basically, what you’re telling me is that the light helps you to better see what
you already know is there…right? [RIGHT!]
- OK, you’ve convinced me! Light helps us see better!
TELL (a.k.a. The Freeway)
- I was asking about lights in your bedroom because in today’s scripture, we are reminded
that what Jesus does is a lot like what that light in your bedroom does.
- Just like the light in our rooms help us to better see what is in it, Jesus helps
us to better see who God is.
- We might think we know God’s love, patience, kindness, forgiveness, healing and abundance,
but sometimes we forget or stop trusting – which is a lot like being in our room
with the light off, right?
- So when we are feeling this way about God, we can do the same thing we do with our
bedrooms, we can turn on the “Jesus light” which will help us to better see and remember
these very good things about God.
SHARE the Good News (a.k.a. The Destination)
- One of the best ways of turning on that “Jesus light” is by learning and knowing
the stories in the Bible that are about Jesus.
- This is one of the reasons why we keep reading and talking about the Jesus stories
is because the better we know the stories about Jesus, the more those stories help
us to see and know who God is.
- Then, when we can better see and know who God is, we can do the same thing that Jesus
did – by helping others to better see and know who God is.
- And that’s the good news for today. Let’s pray.
CLOSING Prayer
- This is a repeat-after-me prayer.
Dear God,
Dear God,
Thank you for Jesus,
Thank you for Jesus,
…who helps us…
…who helps us…
…to better see and know you.
…to better see and know you.
Thank you and Amen.
