ASK    (a.k.a The On-Ramp)

  • Good morning!
  • Did you enjoy lots of tasty food during Christmas and New Years?
  • Did you have any chocolate? Or other types of candy that you don’t have at other times during the year? (like candy canes and eggnog and gingerbread cookies, for example)
  • And how do you think you would feel if you ONLY ate candy canes and gingerbread cookies and eggnog, if you were always filled up on that type of food? Do you would feel good?
  • No, probably not, right?

TELL    (a.k.a. The Freeway)

  • So, filling up on the wrong stuff has an effect on you - it can and will eventually make you feel not so good.
  • But, filling up on the right stuff has an effect on you , too. It can help you feel healthy and ready to do things, right?
  • In today's scripture passage we hear that Jesus is filled up with the right stuff - he's full of God's grace and truth.
  • And because he's filled with this grace and truth, we hear that that is what we can receive from him as well: God's truth and grace upon grace.
  • We also hear, that, if we fill up on this good stuff that Jesus is offering, then we will learn to become children of God, just like Jesus was (and is) a child of God.

SHARE the Good News   (a.k.a. The Destination)

  • And guess what? As we receive God’s truth and grace and are filled up with it, then we can do the same thing that Jesus did: We too can share God's grace and truth with those around us.
  • This is the good news for today:  When we fill up on the good stuff that Jesus offers us (God's grace and truth), then we will be able to offer that good stuff to other people as well.

  • Let’s pray.  This is a repeat-after-me prayer.

Dear God,
Dear God,

Thank you for Jesus…

Thank you for Jesus…

…who was filled with…

…who was filled with…

…your grace and truth…

…your grace and truth…

…and shared it with others.

…and shared it with others.

Please help us to do the same.

Please help us to do the same.

Thank you and amen.
