ASK    (a.k.a The On-Ramp)

  • Good morning!
  • What are some things you have learned in school?
  • Those are a lot of things that you’ve learned! Do you think you know some of those things so well that you could teach someone else the same thing that you’ve learned?
  • This reminds me of one of my favorite jokes when I was your age – whenver I’d pass a grade, I’d tell my mom that I could stop going to school because I could get a job teaching the grade I had just finished.
  • Strangely, she never agreed with me.

TELL    (a.k.a. The Freeway)

  • I was wondering what you’ve learned in school so well that you could teach it to others because that’s what we see happen in today’s scripture story.
  • In it, we hear Jesus tell his disciples to go and do what he’s done with them.
  • He tells them to invite people to be their students and to then teach their students the same things that Jesus taught to them, the disciples.
  • What Jesus is really saying, here, is that the disciples have learned what Jesus taught them so well that they are now ready to go and teach the same things to other people.
  • And that is a pretty amazing thing, really, that Jesus is telling his disciples.
  • He’s telling them that they are ready to be the same kind of teacher that Jesus was to them, that they can teach others the very same things that Jesus taught!

SHARE the Good News   (a.k.a. The Destination)

  • So, just like you’ve learned things in school, so too can we learn things about God from Jesus.
  • And, as we learn about God from Jesus, we will eventually be ready to teach and share what we’ve learned with others, just like the disciples in today’s story.
  • And, that's the good news for today – that we can learn from Jesus how to become the same type of teacher that Jesus, just like the disciples did!
  • Let's pray. This is a repeat-after-me prayer.

  • Let’s pray.  This is a repeat-after-me prayer.

Dear God,
Dear God,

Thank you for Jesus…

Thank you for Jesus…

…who taught the disciples…

…who taught the disciples…

…and us…

 …and us…

…how to better know you…

…how to better know you…

…and then teach others about you.
…and then teach others about you.
